MANILA, Philippines — Juan Accounting Software, developed by JuanTax, now includes PayMongo-powered online payments as part of its free plan, bridging the gap between invoicing and collections for small businesses.

For years, small business owners across the Philippines have juggled separate tools to manage invoices, payments, and taxes. This fragmentation has meant hours spent reconciling records and chasing payments; administrative work that pulls focus away from growth. A new partnership between PayMongo and Juan is closing that loop. By integrating payment collection directly into Juan’s BIR-accredited accounting platform, the collaboration offers Filipino SMEs a unified workflow from invoicing to payment to tax compliance.

Disconnected Systems Holding SMEs Back

Micro, small, and medium enterprises make up 99.5% of all registered businesses in the Philippines, employ 63% of the workforce, and contribute between 36% and 40% to national GDP. Yet many still rely on disconnected software to manage their finances. Digital payments have surged, accounting for 57.4% of total monthly retail payment volume and 59% of value in 2024 which exceeded the government's target. But back-end systems haven't always kept pace. Business owners waste time manually matching payments to invoices and preparing reports for the Bureau of Internal Revenue. For SMEs operating on thin margins, every hour spent on admin is an hour not spent serving customers.

How the Partnership Works

The integration is designed to be simple. A Juan user creates an invoice through the platform. The customer receives it and pays via PayMongo's suite of payment options—credit cards, e-wallets like GCash and Maya, online banking, or QR codes. Once the payment is processed, funds flow directly to the merchant's account, and the invoice is automatically marked as paid in Juan.

This is workflow enablement, not backend data sharing. The partnership eliminates the need to manually reconcile incoming payments with outstanding invoices. It also reduces errors and accelerates cash flow which are critical factors for small businesses managing tight budgets. PayMongo, a Y Combinator-backed financial infrastructure company, enables Filipino businesses to accept, store, send, and borrow money. Its payment gateway already serves thousands of merchants.

Why This Matters for SMEs

Speed and simplicity are the main draws. Business owners no longer need to log into separate systems to check if a payment has arrived or which invoices remain outstanding. Accountants and bookkeepers can reconcile records faster, reducing the risk of missed deadlines or filing errors.

"We're focused on simplifying business operations and enabling SMEs through infrastructure," said Jojo Malolos, CEO of PayMongo. “This partnership is about meeting businesses where they already work by removing friction so they can focus on growth, not admin.”

For Juan, the integration represents a natural extension of its mission to empower SMEs through accessible financial tools. "We want to make it easier for Filipino businesses to manage their finances from start to finish," said Marvin Galang, Co-Founder and CEO of Juan. "By bringing payments into the platform, we're giving our users one less thing to worry about."

The timing is strategic. The Bureau of Internal Revenue collected a record ₱2.85 trillion in taxes in 2024, reflecting stronger compliance and a broader tax base. As the government continues to digitize tax systems and expand enforcement, SMEs face increasing pressure to maintain accurate records and file on time. Tools that simplify compliance are no longer optional. They're essential.

Part of a Broader Ecosystem Shift

This partnership reflects a broader trend in Philippine fintech: collaboration over competition. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' Open Finance PH initiative, launched in 2023, is designed to foster interoperability and innovation across financial institutions and third-party providers. The goal is to create an ecosystem where platforms work together to serve customers better.

Partnerships like PayMongo and Juan help bridge the digital adoption gap. By embedding payment capabilities into accounting software, they reduce the technical burden on business owners and create a more seamless experience. This approach mirrors trends across Southeast Asia, where cross-platform integrations and embedded finance are reshaping the competitive landscape.

Early Adoption and Market Impact

Both companies see strong early demand from SMEs already using digital accounting tools but still struggling with payment reconciliation. The integration addresses a pain point that's been hiding in plain sight: the gap between getting paid and staying compliant.

For accountants and bookkeepers, the partnership means fewer manual tasks and more time for advisory work. For business owners, it means faster cash flow and less administrative friction. In a market where 99.5% of businesses are small, and every percentage point of efficiency matters, that's a proposition with significant market pull.

As more SMEs digitize their operations, the platforms that make it easiest to do business will capture the most value. By removing friction between invoicing, payments, and compliance, PayMongo and Juan are positioning themselves as essential infrastructure for the next generation of Filipino entrepreneurs. The collaboration demonstrates how fintech partnerships can deliver tangible value to the businesses that need it most, not through complex technology, but through smart integration that meets merchants where they already work.
